Our second week in school started with a Learning Camp.

MONDAY

On our first day, we started to write our blogs. It is used to show our development while studying in Haaga-Helia.

We also had a librarian telling us about the library system we have, for example how to rent books and search for materials for studies. Other groups went on the library tour to see where everything is, but we didn´t for some reason.

Before our school started we had to do a pre-assignment about what kind of learners we are. You can find mine here. We discussed different ways to learn in class and quite many of us were multi-learners.

TUESDAY

On our second day, we had a Group dynamics and stage presence class. We learned how to relax, stand and how be good performers. We also had this group project to take pictures around the campus. Themes were something we haven´t noticed before and something that reminded us about a playground. We had to present them to the rest of the class and tell a little about them.

Then we had a class about ICT Tools where we learned to search our database and how to build our blog.

What learning experience made the biggest impression on me today was the first class on Group dynamics and stage presence. I learned how to stand and how act while giving a presentation. After school, I was so excited and motivated to learn more about this topic that I watched videos about it on Youtube.

WEDNESDAY

On the third day, we had classes about Business ethics, Reporting guidelines, and a Global mindset. We discussed business ethics and learned about plagiarism. In global mindset class, we discussed how different cultures differ from each other in work, personal life, and equality. Reporting guidelines was really educating and I am really happy to know that we have guides on how to write our thesis.

Rest of the day we planned our trip to Suomenlinna or Taiteiden yö. I chose Suomenlinna and we started to make a schedule for our day.

What learning experiences made the biggest impression on me today was the reporting guidelines. We had these in my previous school, but the rules were a bit different, so it was nice to know that we actually have guides and rules on how to write reports and a thesis.

THURSDAY

On our fourth day, we went to Suomenlinna. Before we left for Suomenlinna we had our usual morning session before classes. This morning we had "Taste" as our theme. After the morning session, we started to plan our study trip to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, or Iceland.

What learning experience made the biggest impression on me today was that you always need to prepare well before you go to interview someone.

SUOMENLINNA

We visited Military Museum, Suomenlinna Museum, Submarine Vesikko, and Customs Museum. We also walked around the area and took pictures. The weather was really nice and quite windy.

One of our assignments was to interview a stand or a shop and we decided to interview the tourist information of Suomenlinna. It seemed the best option for our needs. The stand was inside a big house and it was quite basic. Big room for many tourists and is very bright.

Why are they there?

They are the tourist information of Suomenlinna. They are there to help tourists with their questions and tell them about the sights and history of Suomenlinna. For example what sights to see and what kind of activities they have. You can get a guide to the area from the information in different languages.

What is their target group?

Their target groups are Finnish and foreign visitors.

How does the stand convey the brand image?

They don´t have a brand, but they want to highlight the world heritage site and cultural-historical environment. Sustainability perspective and sustainable tourism, want to act responsibly.

How do they sell their product/services/destination?

They have their brochure where you can find the map of the area and information about Suomenlinna. Social media is a big part of their marketing; they have their own site where you can find all the news and information. They also work very closely with Visit Finland.

How do they engage with customers?

To engage with customers, they want you to have a pleasant visit and experience so that you want to come back. Customer feedback is collected and used to improve their service.

FRIDAY

On our fifth and last day of learning camp, we finally met our study couches.

We had this sports event at Kokonhalli. We went there, but after a while decided to attempt the other activity which was movies.

What learning experiences made the biggest impression on me today was that we have our study coaches who will help, guide and review our reports, etc.

So this was our Learning Camp. It was a really fun and good way to get used to our Campus and learn our databases, ways, and other things. It made the beginning of school very relaxed and easy to adjust to. I really enjoyed these days and found new friends.

How I would improve Learning Camp week... This is hard to answer, because I was very pleased with the week, even though there was so much information. If I had to change something then I would give more time to be with our class. It took quite a long to meet and remember almost 40 people.
