I have a multimodal learning preference, which means I prefer all the strategies of VARK to learn. My strengths are aural (speaking/listening) and reading/writing. The second strongest is kinesthetic (practical exercises) and the least is visual.
In order to study more effectively, I need to be able to ask questions, discuss, listen, see, read, and write. I prefer to make things by hand and see how it's done. It depends on what I want to learn and how I'm going to learn it. Different things need different ways. For example, when I started learning the Japanese alphabet, I had to write them down repeatedly, read texts, and say them out loud.
In my previous studies at the tourism vocational school, we did many visual presentations, group projects, and practical exercises, for example, guided tours around the city. We also had guests who came to give us presentations of their work.
The methods of exploratory learning and the ways of my previous school are not much different, but in vocational school, we do research alone. Everyone had their own area of responsibility. When everyone had done their work, we combined our work together. In exploratory learning, you must work together to build knowledge. It is even more about communicating with each other toward a goal.
In order to succeed in my studies at Haaga-Helia, I should be able to use these learning methods in my studies. I should be active in class and with my classmates, writing notes and sharing thoughts about the projects and goals.
